Contaminant-Free Cheese At Cropwell Bishop Creamery

Cropwell Bishop CheeseCropwell Bishop Creamery can be confident its cheese is metal-free thanks to the installation of METTLER TOLEDO Safeline metal detectors at its packing facility in Nottinghamshire. The systems, positioned at the end of the production lines within the factory, are used to detect foreign bodies in the company's Blue Stilton and White Stilton with fruits products, which are sold in delicatessens and food halls throughout Europe.

Since its establishment, Cropwell Bishop Creamery has produced a range of fine quality cheeses. Following many years of growth, the Creamery expanded its production facilities and opened the packaging and despatch department in 2007. The Creamery was keen to maintain quality and safety standards, and installed Safeline R-Series Profile and Signature machines.

Both systems deliver high levels of detection sensitivity, and can identify even non-magnetic stainless steels, which are notoriously difficult to locate. The detectors are mounted on bespoke conveyor systems and have been fully integrated into Cropwell's production lines. They are highly versatile and designed to withstand the rigours of harsh processing environments. The Profile systems feature a "change free mode", which allows different products to be inspected without the need to change settings and without compromising sensitivity.

Cropwell Bishop Creamery's Quality Assurance Manager, commented, "Like all dairy manufacturing plants, ours is a challenging environment where metal contamination could be a risk. Cropwell's needs are very specific because we produce a wide range of cheeses, in a variety of pack sizes. METTLER TOLEDO Safeline's metal detectors offer excellent sensitivity, ensuring our products are free of any metallic contaminants, even very small pieces of metal which other detectors might miss. They are also highly versatile, checking pack weights from 150g right up to 9kg."

"What's more, our staff can set up and run the machines with no additional assistance and be confident they will run effectively. A further benefit of the Profile detector is the condition monitoring feature. Early warning of a potential problem with the system before a fault actually occurs means we can plan for maintenance activities at a time convenient for us, rather than having to stop production."

Safelines Marketing Manager added, "The expansion of the facility has been an exciting development for Cropwell Bishop Creamery and maintaining stringent quality standards was our key objective with this installation. Mettler-Toledo Safeline's Signature and Profile systems are ideally suited to meet the dairy's needs. They can inspect different products without having to reset the equipment – maximising efficiency and productivity."
